Comm 300: Commercials
I'm watching television the other day, which is a lot of what I do. Boar's Head has a new commercial for it's Everroast Chicken breast, which is said to be better than grandma's. This commercial is interesting because it is the first commercial in a long long time, that I've seen with a black person in it. There is a black grandmother kind of off to the side in this commercial, and though she doesn't have any lines to say, she's there. I think it's great that she's in there, I just wish that there were more minorities in commercials. I can't even think of a commercial that has a Hispanic person in it, or a Chinese person in it.

Could be a content analysis paper for COMM 300! Just saying... BTW, I was all set to remind you of our course number, but clearly you're all set. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is just a random thought I just had. But think of a car commercial. Ever notice the windows are tinted and you can't see who is driving? It's because they want you to be able to imagine yourself driving the car. It has to be the same with all commercials, they want you to be able to see yourself eating that food, buying that product. Most people in America are white, so that is their biggest demographic. Not only that, but black people are used to seeing white people in all commercials so it maybe doesn't phase them much. Where, a white person looking at a commecial with black people may be like, is this product for black people (unconsciously). It was just a fleeting thought, that doesn't make the lack of minority okay.
