Comm 300: My Name is Earl
So, I was watching My Name is Earl last night and I was interested in the bank scene with Joy and Crab Man. Joy was trying to get a loan from the bank and had told Darnell to stay in the car. When he comes into the bank she says " You know I don't see color, but I'm trying to get a loan and they won't give it to me if they see me with a black guy." After Darnell storms off she yells after him I'm sorry honey, it's the way it is, I don't make the rules, this is just America." Isn't that terrible? I know that My Name is Earl is a comedy, but I think that that last statement is a bit too close to the actual truth of the matter..

I have to agree with you on that one. There are some things that you can easily put into a show like "My Name is Earl", but on the other hand there are things that you just don't say on the air and that is definitely one of them. Yes it may be true that stuff like that happens in the real world, but I really don't think people need reminders like that about the real world.
ReplyDeleteI dont like to think that this type of thing is actually happening in America but im sure it does happen. People are just wrong and jusge people by their race. Yes, the show is only a comedy, but this is all relevant to everyday life.
