Comm 300: I am Joaquin

I just watched this film clip and I really enjoyed it. It's a very interesting film using only still photographs instead of the movies we are used to seeing. I thought that this did a wonderful job of allowing you to focus in on the narrator's words, instead of what you are seeing on the screen. Since watching this film I want to try and watch the other two films that Noriega talks about in his first chapter, though I'm not sure if they will be available. I'll post links if I find them.

  1. It helps drive home the meaning of the poem too. Because without the spoken word and the images we would be forced to only go by the words on the page. Since most people don't really know much about the topic these elements help the reader have a better understanding. =]

  3. I agree. I think the film was beautifully put together. Expressing an emotional feat for the Chicano culture through poetry is most effective. It's absolutely a form of art and a moment in history that can be repeated over and over again.

  4. Yeah I really agree that the spoken word can be one of the most powerful tools we have. When it is used correctly, as it does in this clip, the impact is almost beyond measure. Really poignant.

  5. I enjoyed it because of its message and because it was different. Not many artists can pull off this type of project and get these results. It was done beautifully. I will be suggesting it.

  6. I agree. "I Am Joaquin" was really captivating. Considering the subject matter of the film was something that I did not know much about before, I thought the format left quite an impact. There was such power behind the spoken aspect and the collage of images made it easy to keep much of my attention on what was being said.
